"Black Myth: Wukong" officially launched on August 20, 2024. It’s created by a group of talented and passionate Chinese developers, is the result of their relentless pursuit of a dream. The game boasts exceptional artistry, storytelling, graphics, and music, delivering an explosive combat experience that gets players' adrenaline pumping. It’s a Chinese single-player game that rivals international AAA titles.

| From the beginning

"Black Myth: Wukong" was developed by Game Science, an internet company focused on creating high-quality games. Game Science was founded by Feng Ji, a brilliant graduate of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.

In 2014, Feng Ji and a group of former colleagues from Tencent, who were dissatisfied with the status quo, left the company to establish Game Science. This startup team is highly experienced, with over 10 years of collaboration on average.

Believing that "truth is endless, and advancing an inch brings an inch of joy", they are convinced that game development, like other industries, is a rigorous discipline requiring 99% diligence and 1% inspiration, rather than a gambler's business driven by trends. Thus, the name "Game Science" was born, combining "Game" and "Science".

| IP Incubation

The story of "Black Myth: Wukong" is based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, one of China's Four Great Classical Novels. According to the game's creator, Yang Qi, they chose this IP because it’s like "being granted food by our ancestors". Following the principle of "adaptation, not distortion", all settings in the game have roots in the original novel. The game strives to be as authentic as possible to the worldview of Journey to the West, with a new interpretation and reconstruction of the story based on a deep understanding of the original. Players, as the "chosen one", embark on a dangerous and thrilling journey to uncover the truth behind ancient legends, crafting an epic tale of Eastern heroism.

The name "Wukong" is a nod to the character Sun Wukong, but the story is about more than just the Monkey King. Each NPC encountered along the way is well-developed, with their own flesh and blood. Even some villains, upon closer inspection, don’t seem as evil as they first appear—they’re simply living in rebellion in their own way.

With a classic Journey to the West theme and a setting inspired by Chinese historical architecture, every detail reflects the team's dedication. The scene designs are based on traditional Chinese aesthetics, striving for authenticity from the initial concept design.

The core team aimed to recreate the classic story in their hearts, presenting players with a mysterious and incredibly realistic Eastern fantasy world through top-tier graphics, rich details, immersive storytelling, and an engaging combat experience.

| Gameplay Experience

On August 20, 2023, Game Science held its first offline demo event for "Black Myth: Wukong" in Hangzhou. Unlike previous years, where only gameplay videos were released, this time, a thousand lucky players got to experience part of the game firsthand.

The demo was run on over a hundred PCs equipped with GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, and NVIDIA DLSS 3, offering higher and more stable performance and smoother gameplay, allowing players to immerse themselves in the Eastern fantasy world as if they were truly there.

The demo included several boss challenges and standalone level segments. The bosses for levels 1 through 4 were Centipede, Red-Faced Macaque, Tiger Vanguard, and the Dark Moon Lord, with an additional optional boss in the fourth level. The game is designed entirely around real-time action, with both the protagonist's and the bosses' movements being exceptionally smooth.

| Boss Presentation

Centipede: Some of its special attacks can poison the protagonist, leading to gradual health loss.

Red-Faced Macaque: If you can reduce its health to half within a certain time, it activates a second form.

Tiger Vanguard: One of the more challenging bosses, it has a "Bronze Head, Iron Arms" fossilization skill and high-damage moves, making it easy for players to be KO'd if they're not careful.

Although the demo only showcased a portion of the game, the level of completion in "Black Myth: Wukong" exceeded many netizens' expectations. The combat system is above average, and the graphics, music, and sound effects are top-notch, earning the game a wave of positive reviews.
