Chaos Czech has released Corona Renderer 7, the latest version of the CPU renderer for 3ds Max.
The update shows a long list of the new features including new physical material, improved sky model, faster rendering, faster denoising, more material in the library and so on. Let’s take a look at some of the major updates now!
| New Physical Material
The release of CoronaPhysicalMti is the major update of Corona Renderer 7, a “whole world of improvement” of the materials since 2016. Intending to increase the “compatibility with other software and workflows”, the new physical material is bringing:
Clearcoat parameters for recreating car paint and Sheen parameters for recreating the surface properties of fabric.
Switched the diffuse calculations from Lambertian to Oren-Nayar to make your materials more physically realistic and adding 35 presets to speed up your workflow.
Improving glass: more realistic reflections and refractions for rough glass.
Meanwhile, Amisotropy now can affects the refraction as well as the result of caustics correctlt.

| Faster Scene Opening & Rendering
Various improvements have been added to the new version to speed up the rendering by “6 to 50%”. The improvements of speed is depending on the scenes, for more individual optimizations, please check the update blog.
| Updating the Sky with the New PRG Clear Sky Model
Original introduced in Corona Renderer 6, the new sky model is now renamed as ‘PRG Clear Sky Model’ mimic atmospheric haze in aerial perspective images, allowing users to reduce the intensity of rendering
Volume Effect (often called aerial perspective) is now easily enabled and adjusted “via a single value” to make the sky more real with the atmosphere.
New Altitude parameter allows you to define how high the camera is in the atmosphere.
Also adding Turbidity and Horizon Blur to make the sky look more real and can be adjusted more simply according to the needs of the scene.

Adding a new category, Masonry, alone with some new materials based on the Physical Material;
Improved 2.5D displacement to use less memory with better results and remove the legacy displacement.
Updated the Intel Open Image Denoiser to version 1.4.1 and the the OptiX (NVIDIA GPU AI denoiser) to version 6.5.0.
Fix bugs
The latest version of Corona Renderer now supports Max 2022 and the Cinema 4D edition of the renderer has not been updated to version 7.
