Get to know some of the stunning development, updates and technology released in the CG industry this month! Let's keep learning new things and new tools together, and reserve more knowledge for further 3D art creation.
| Z-Anatomy – Open Source 3D Atlas of Anatomy
Initiated in February 2021 by medical illustrator Gauthier Kervyn, Z-Anatomy is an “open source atlas of anatomy” where users may see realistic structures of the human body in layers, including the skeleton, muscles, blood vessels and nerves.
The 3D reconstruction of the human body is available as both a Blender file and a free Android app that allows users to view the organs and tissues of the human body as a 3D model. You may tog individual layers on or off, or hiding or isolating individual body parts to have a clear view of a whole system, such as the entire nerve distribution or muscle distribution. And you may observe how each bone fits together in different positions.
Z-Anatomy is developed based on the open-source BodyParts3D data set created by Japanese research institution the Database Center for Life Science and is calling for volunteers to act as 3D modelers, developers or translators. You may download it here or click here to get involve as a part of the project.
It is undeniable that the project brings the features of human body to life in a more user-friendly and visually appealing way, and is an important initiative for everyone in the fields of medicine, biology and anatomy.
| Physical Simulation – Apply Gravity to Blender Objects via Your Phone
3D artist @Zhihao12291552 has shared a magical video where all the Blender objects produce real physical feedback to what people do to the computer.
There have been various speculations about how this magical work came into being, and the creator himself shard the answer not long ago. The solution is, use your mobile phone application (ZIG SIM PRO for IOS and MultiSense Osc for Andriod) to scense the physical force and connect it to blender via an add-on called AddRoutes, so the force will simulate to the objects and giving a realistic feedback.

In the meanwhile, you may also find a more detailed tutorial about how to realize the stunning effect shared by @3D_director.
Please note that th AddRountes add-on only works in Blender 3.0 and you may click here to download it. Enjoy!
| AI Technology for Creation – More Is Coming
As we have introduced earlier in the article “AI-Based Painting Tools for Arts Design”, the application of AI technology in the field of design is becoming more and more extensive, and the programs developed along with it have gradually attracted attention. So let’s take a look at what’s new is coming!
Google Brain Team has unveiled an “AI system that creates photorealistic images from input text”, Image. Different from the already well-known Della 2, instead of training a text model along with the image generation model, Image “builds on the power of large transformer language models in understanding text”. As the teams explains, it makes the model understand text better and helps to lead a better result according to their study. Also, a brand new attempt, diffusion model, is used in the Image for high-fidelity image generation.
In addition, many results of the project as well as a benchmark are shared for comparing text-to-image models between Image and other methods, giving a very surprising results from what we usually assume.
No code or public demo has been released yet due to the “potential risks of misuse raise concerns”, and you many learn more details about it here.
